THURSDAY WEEK 4. CRITIQUING MY WORK

After critiquing my work, my ideas and the direction I should head in became a whole lot clearer.
I knew that i needed to focus on adding things to my spreads that reflected the location, making the spread feel like you were at the place.
For instance if you were at the markets you are in a busy bright environment but with the bright blue open sky around you and the water close by. - I decided for my markets spread to apply this feeling in image form.
Defining my grid was also another job, I decided on a 4 column grid.
A hero and hierarchy had to also be established.

DEVELOPMENTS WEEK 4

Week 4 began with me still developing my style and arrangements. I had many ideas and were just trying to get as much out of my head onto the page as possible and then seeing what worked and what didnt. I knew my colour palette was quite clear and that was one of my strong points, I just needed to narrow down my text and how to arrange that, along side picking a font and deciding on a specific design style. 

3 PAGE SPREADS ~ STARTING POINT

This here was my starting point for my layouts, I began to play with ideas on layouts and arrangements with text and imagery. I knew with these layouts that it was simply just a starting point and I did not want my finals to look like this. This did help me generate more ideas and keep improving my work.

WEEK 3 ~ MAP MAKING

At this point in week 3 I had created these maps. This was when I had an idea on the colours that I wanted to use in my design and the style that I wanted so I made these maps based on that. This led me to apply similar styles to the start of my layout concepts.

Thurs March 3rd.
Today I have narrowed down my choices to a idea that I enjoy and like and makes me the most excited. I have chosen to do plant hunting in the capital. Coming to a new city i found it hard to know where to go and since there isnt a lot of information on the web about where to find good places I had to find out from word of mouth. Creating this brochure will help students, new people to the city or anyone who loves plants find the treasures that they are looking for. This idea related to how John Key said wellington is a dying city because if we have more people buying plants and having them in their lives and this city it will show more as living. This idea best suits my style of design and I am sure I will be able to communicate this idea in a brochure in a captivating and cool way.

From here I need to do more research and study my 3 locations. I need to go take photographs of these places and get more of a feel of the emotive qualities that these locations hold & what experience these different places give out, also establish my 3 communication points.
